  Too many commercials on KJR
Posted: 2/11/2009 11:10 am

I would just like to vent for a minute. Is it me or have there been a ton more commercials on KJR in the last year? I would say that about 80-90% of the times that I turn I my radio to listen to KJR, it is on commercial. Just this morning I tried again with the same frustration. I turned it on 5 times, and of course 4 times it was on commercial. It drives me crazy. It's not like I'm getting into my car at the same time everyday and getting the same commercial time spot. I go between 4 buildings all day long and always get commercials. And these are no 1-2 minute commercial breaks. They have been as long as 6-8 minutes. I understand that they get their money from advertising in radio and that they have probably sold even more spots now to compensate for the down economy, but it's ridiculous. I can't wait for KIRO sports radio to start so that KJR will lose some commercial air time that should be divided between them. I can actually hear about sports every now and then and have more actual air time. And air time does not count as Mitch trying to sell Land Rovers or Softy trying to sell Comcast either. Even if it's not a commercial, we still have to hear these guys selling us stuff that is so wonderful, because they get it free for doing it. Sorry. Just venting.

I agree 100% as posted earlier Mitch is 10-12 minutes content to 18-20 minutes of commercials in a half hour. Starts the top of the hour with commercials then content then commercials and updates.

I also agree about there being to much filler and not enough chat from the hosts. I sure hope thier pay has been cut since they don't work as much. Also, I have a complaint about a particular host (working the afternoon spot) who does his best to avoid the caller session that each host has during there show. The host will spend 10 minutes talking about really nothing at all and just voicing opinions about something he was thinking about on the way into work. Then he opens the lines to callers who get a short couple of minutes before he runs to a break?!?! Is there a program director working there??? Other hosts have content and news why can't he? Maybe a reminder to him that he is earning a paycheck, which I'm sure is slightly more than mine, and that he should try to be more tolerant of the things he does not like. The host, not the listener, should be exercising tolerance.

Did you notice KJRAM (just like ARod) no longer has a friend in the diamond business? Now Groz is gone, there won't even be a parody...

morning commercials

My theory on the increase of the commercials during the morning show is to help fund Mitch's high salary he was given a few years back. Remember when he tried to quit back in the earlier part of the decade and was coaxed back?

I used to be one of the faithful 39 1/2 when he started in the mid-day back in 1995 and enjoyed listening to him when he moved to the mornings later. But, like you, I get tired of just blah blah commercials so I switched to 97.3 fm news radio. Content isn't as entertaining, but far fewer commercials.

Is old really the KJR demographic?

Being targeted by limp, overweight & balding men with commercials for limp, overweight & balding men gets old. Is old really the KJR demographic?
